Sports Massage Therapy

Sports Massage AssociationSports Massage is the management, manipulation and rehabilitation of soft tissues of the body including muscles, ligaments and tendons. I am not only a highly qualified and experienced practitioner, but I also travel the country teaching on one of the most respected courses in the UK.

If you are a sports performer, of any level, a sports specific massage can provide a number of benefits, improving sporting performance and recovery at various stages of participation:

  • The conditioning / training phase
  • Pre competition
  • Inter competition
  • Post competition
  • Post travel
  • Injury prevention
  • Injury recovery
  • Massage can also help anyone with poor posture, back or neck pain, muscular aches and pains, flexibility issues, or any number of problems.

    Back, neck and pelvis pain

Many people suffer daily with neck, back or pelvic pain. This can be caused by a number of different things, such as illness or injury (occupational or sporting), poor posture, or any other activity they perform on a regular basis, or even their state of mind.

    Massage and Mobilisation

Many types of therapists address only one aspect of neck, back or pelvic pain. For example osteopaths and chiropractors will treat the bones and joints with manipulations, which will realign the bones and joints, but the soft tissues surrounding these bones and joints will simply pull the bones and joints out of alignment again.

On the other hand, many massage therapists can stretch and strengthen the surrounding soft tissues, but usually this will only reduce the symptoms without realigning the bones and joints.

Pursuit Health and Performance is different. I can offer a complete treatment addressing both of these elements. Following a comprehensive assessment, I can mobilise stiff joints of the spine and pelvis, while using massage and exercise to help the surrounding soft tissues adapt to the new position, so they hold the bones and joints in the correct position. I can also provide an individually tailored and targeted program of exercise and stretching to make sure that whatever the problem is, it doesn't keep coming back.

The techniques used by sports massage practitioners ensure effective and efficient results from each and every massage. As well as standard massage tecniques, I have studied and am experienced in:

    • Myofascial release techniques
    • Trigger point therapy
    • Soft tissue release
    • Muscle energy techniques
    • PNF stretching techniques
