Core Strength and Stability is THE buzz word of the moment in the general media, and with good reason. It refers to the ability to stabilise the lower back and pelvis while performing movements with the rest of the body. This could be as simple as picking something up off the floor, picking up a 100kg rugby player, or maintaining a healthy back and pelvis while pounding through a marathon.
Functional Strength is the next level. Once you have a strong and stable core, you need to be able to perform the movements strongly and safely. Functional training involves the whole body, including the core,and working together to perform movements which are similar to those you need to do on a daily basis. For athletes, this would be movements from your sport, for non-athletes, it would be movements you perform at work or at home.
