Welcome to my regular Personal Training Blog!!
Tuesday 07-02-12
It's been a while so I thought it was about time for a blog. Now we've all settled into the new year, there's not too much in the way of news at the moment. The sports massage internship at Worcester Warriors is going well, starting a case study on one of the players this week. My training is also going really well, got a 175kg deadlift up yesterday, and managed to squat 140kg for three reps last week. Just a bit of bench press testing to go this week before a rest week next week :) Our sponsored tennis star is starting the season soon with an event up in Scotland, and will be hoping to record a first win of the season, as well as improving his world ranking, into the top 50 and the england squad is the target for this year! Finally, there is a new webite on the way soon, and I will be posting my strength training program from the last few months on the new website for the 75% of people who voted and said that i should! You can still vote so if you want to know how to increase your strength, get involved!

So here's the first blog of the new year. I hope you all had a good Christams and that the New Year is being kind to you. So what news? There's a couple of exciting things going on at the moment. Firstly, I am proud to announce the second Pusuit Health & Performance sponsored athlete: Barrie Jones. Originally from the Cheltenham area and currently living in Leeds, Barrie is an ultra-marathon athlete. Having finished joint 4th in the the Stratford 100 last year, Barrie will be competing the Grand Union Canal Race, which is 145 miles from Birmingham to London, non stop. I will helping with all his training and nutritional supplements, as well providing support and massage for the Canal Race in June. Secondly, Pursuit has got together with local nutrionist Marianne Andrews, who will be able offer specialist nutrional and dieary advice to all our clients, as well as top tips on the website. We will have more info on both of these developments on the website soon. Talking about the website, we might soon have a whole new website, so keep checking back here to whats going on!

So I've started the soft tissue therapy placement at Worcester Warriors RFC, and already I know it's going to be quite a learning curve! The physios there are amazing in their depth and breadth of knowledge, and in their open minded open approach to new, slightly left-field techniques. And they had a good result on the week end in Romania! Also this week, with the New Year just around the corner, I thought I would let you know how my training has been going since the summer. After a coule of years off strength training due to a dodgy pelvis, I've just been getting back into it through the autumn, as well keeping an eye on the cardio. So last week was a testing week, and I managed to post a 160kg deadlift, which is an all time personal best, and a 120kg bench press, which is just less than my all time PB. Squats are plodding along nicely at 100kg for 3 sets of 5, as I'm taking my time with them becuase they put the most stress through the pelvis. For cardio I managed to increase my vO2max by about 10-12%, which doesn't sound a lot but is pretty good in 8 weeks and only doing two sessions a week, both less than 20 minutes. On the whole I'm pretty happy with all that, and in the New Year I'll be concentrating on getting both my bench press and squat up, and in working on my Olympic lifting technique, as this will be important for the ASCC exam. Let me know if you think I should post my training diary by voting in the poll to the right! Thanks!
